From My Daily Reading #9: Be Ready for the Opportunity

Acts 3

What if we were to ask this question at each start of the day:

God, what would you have me do for you, today?

Or what if we made this our prayer?

God, lead me into opportunities to be used in your will today.

It just might change the way we live our lives!

Perhaps we might actually start looking for opportunities where God is at work and jump in to work the works of Him that has sent us.

I don’t know if the disciples began their day with such questions or prayers, but when I read this passage in Acts 3, I see for certain, that is exactly how the apostles and servants of God lived their lives.

Paul told Timothy, always be ready:  Ready to share the gospel, ready to give an answer for why you believe the gospel.  In seasons (when we think it is time to minister) and out of season (when we aren’t looking to intentionally minister.)

Peter and John were on their way to the temple to pray.  When they passed a beggar at one of the gates.  The begging man asked for what begging man do, asked for some money.

Peter then gave the man by the power of God, something far greater than money; He performed a miracle and healed the man.

Because of this crowds to gather because of the commotion of the crippled man’s healing and subsequent celebration of praise. (Acts 3:6-9)

But then something amazing happened:  Peter who had learned by following Jesus to live his life ready for opportunities to minister to people for Jesus, saw the opportunity…and he seized it.

Christian, we are called to carry out the great commission and be ambassadors of the good news of the Gospel of Christ.  That is one of the main purposes God has for us on this planet after we put our faith in Him.  If he did not have a purpose for us to worship Him and point others to Him, he would simply have taken us home to heaven instead of leaving us in a sin cursed world.

Christian there are opportunities all around us to point people to Jesus, to love people for Jesus, to be the hands and feet of Jesus.  The fields are literally ready for harvest.

But we must be asking, and looking for the opportunities God might put before us.

May we, like Peter and John, learn to constantly be ready for the opportunities to be used of God in peoples lives.

And when those opportunities arrive, (and they will) we must seize the opportunity to show a world that is hurting and lost, the Hope of a Savior that can be found.
