Matthew 26:32
I am often am amazed that the chosen disciples of Jesus so often misunderstood what Jesus was saying or forgot what Jesus had been doing.
They were often confused, bewildered, or just got things wrong, despite Jesus telling them over and over.
In this 26th chapter of Matthew, Jesus told His disciples plainly at least 3 times that He was going to die. In fact in the book of Matthew, Jesus has told them plainly at least 6 times that He was going to die.
Yet, they did not understand that He was indeed going to go to suffer, die, and be buried.
After Jesus dies and is buried, the disciples were heartbroken and lost, not knowing what to do, even though Jesus told them in Matthew 26:32, that after He died (the 6th time He told them by my count), He would rise from the dead and meet them in Galilee!
Yet, the disciples are despondent and His death, and shocked when He shows up to meet them in Galilee!
Before we are to hard on the disciples however, we must remember and admit that we too often miss what God has told us or is trying to show us.
Why? Because, like the disciples we have our own focus, our own agenda, or own preconceptions of how things are supposed to be or expected to go.
This leaning on our own understanding and viewing things from our perspective often causes us to miss what God is showing us or telling us. Just like the disciples before us.
We must make a concentrated effort to listen to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit. We must lean in with expectation that God is going to show us or telling exactly what we need for each moment.
God has great plans for us, He knows what is ahead of each curve or life for us, and He knows what He purposes to do.
Our Job is watch, listen, and focus on him so that we can follow His lead and each step of the way.
We must die to self, our own agenda’s, perspective’s, and understanding; and focus on Him.
Today, ask God to allow you to hear clearly what He is saying and see what He is doing, and we will hear from Him…
…if we are truly listening, and expecting Him to speak.
