From My Daily Reading #3 - The Key to a Well Done Good and Faithful Servant

Jonathan McGary

Matthew 25:14-30

The “Parable of the Talents” as told by Jesus gives the illustration of 3 servants who are given various amounts of money to manage by their boss, before the boss goes on a journey out of the country.

Each of the three servants get a different amount.

The parable then tells how the first two servants use what they are given to double the original amount given.  The last servant did nothing with the money he was given other than hide it.

When the master returned and learned what each had done with what they were given, the first two servants are praised and rewarded and the last servant was rebuked and punished.

The temptation of this story may be to focus on the disparity of the amounts given to the different servants.

Another temptation may be to view it as unfair that the worker who his the money and then returned the same amount to his boss, was rebuked and rejected.

But these thoughts will not lead us to the words we wish to hear from our Master and Heavenly Father when we are brought before Him.

The key to hearing “Well done” is to be faithful with what we are given and where we are given.

God may one day call you a to “greater task” or a “different field”, but be faithful where you are with what you have,  and leave the rest to the Master!
