From My Daily Reading #20

Passion Week: Thursday

Thursday was the beginning of the end. There was much that took place on the Thursday before Jesus was crucified.

Among other events on Thursday: Jesus washed the disciples feet, He gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them, He celebrated Passover while at the same time He instituted the Lord’s Supper, and He prayed in the Garden before being arrested.

In celebrating Passover, He instituted the Lord’s Supper by illustrating what He would accomplish on the cross with his broken body and spilled blood.by giving them the bread and fruit of the vine as symbols. Powerful symbols.

Symbols that we practice and celebrate today in church’s across the world.

While it is important that we participate in the Lord’s Supper, the more important part of the supper (as opposed to the elements themselves) is the remembering what Jesus did in the sacrifice he made.

We are instructed to remember, and remember we must.

Not just when we partake in communion, but every day, we aught to recall the price that Jesus paid for all who will believe.

He paid the price of the beating, the mocking, the thorns, the nails and the cross, as well as the spear in the side.

Perhaps without a doubt, the greatest suffering he endured was the weight of all our sin, while His father had to turn away and forsake Him on the cross.

Oh there is much to remember when it comes to what Jesus has done for us.

There is much to be thankful for.

There is much to repay with a lifetime fo dedication and service.

Because God so loved the whole world that He gave His only son.

That we might not perish but have eternal life.

May we never forget!

We are ordinary everyday people forming a  simple country church.  We believe in Salvation through Jesus Christ alone, that the Bible is the perfect Inspired Word of God, that Jesus is coming one day to claim his people, and that we should live for Him as best we can (by His strength) while loving others and telling them of His love until He comes again.

We invite you join us as our guest, worship with us, grow with us, and serve with us.
