Matthew 26:18-20
The Commissioning - Jesus last words before he left were for his disciples to spread the Gospel Message to the whole world. These disciples included more than just the 11 apostles.
Your Commissioning - Every believer is called to be a disciple. God did not save you to sit on the sideline as a spectator or cheerleader. He saved you and gave you a purpose. If not he would not have left you here on earth to struggle, but would have taken you straight to Heaven.
The Command - The imperative command in our commissioning is not, "To Go", but rather "To Teach" or "to make" depending on your translation. The "To go" is literally an instruction to teach how to be a disciple and what a disciple is supposed to do, while you are going through life. It could be read this way, while you are living life, tell people the good news of the Gospel and how to be saved, then teach them how to live as a disciple.
Our Responsibility - We have the responsibility as the chosen instruments of God, to carry our our commissioning. How will people believe, if they have not heard? How will they hear if we do not tell them?
We Go In Jesus Authority - Jesus had demonstrated his authority/power over, trials, troubles, sickness, sin, death, the devil, and in fact everything in life, while on the earth. He has now delegated that authority/power to his disciples. We do not carry out our commission in our own authority or power, but rather in His.
We Are Not Going Alone - in our going and telling, we are not going and telling alone, or without a plan. Jesus, in the person of the Holy Spirit, goes with us, and he will be with us until the end of our time on this earth.
It's a Fact - His presence in our lives is a promise and a fact that does not depend on us. This truth does not depend on whether we believe it, or always obey our calling. It is simply a fact that He is always with us. Motivation
