“Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
‘Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them instantly’
But they fell on their faces and said’O God, God of the spirits of all flesh, when one man sins, will You be angry with the entire congregation?” Numbers 16:20-22
Did you notice what Moses (and Aaron) was doing?
He was interceding on behalf of the nation of Israel…again.
He prays to God pleading with Him not to destroy the people. Just as he had done on Mt. Sinai when the people began worshipping the golden calf. As He had done for Aaron and Miriam in Numbers 12. As he had done when the people had refused to enter the Promised land.
Moses is known as the Covenant Intercessor, because he interceded on between God and Israel.
He is also known as a type of Christ, as he stood as an intercessor between God and Man, just as Christ intercedes for us today.
The People of Israel needed someone to intercede on their behalf as they journeyed in Moses day.
Sinful man has desperate need for Christ to intercede on our behalf offering us salvation and access to carry our needs to God in prayer.
People today need Jesus to intercede for salvation and authority to enter God’s presence, but also need people like Moses who will pray to God on their behalf.
So the question is this…
…Who will you be willing and intentional to intercede for today?
Who is it that you know is standing in the need of prayer, and that you can go to God and plead with Him on their behalf?
