This verse was written nearly 3000 years ago. It was a call for Israel to repent of their wicked ways and to turn back to a loving God.
Today, for believers in Christ, we realize that repentance of sin is necessary in accepting salvation. However, although we are once and for all saved and forgiven of sin, we still do yield to temptation and sin. We need reminded that repentance is not just a key requirement for accepting the gift of salvation, but also a requirement for living in a close, unfettered relationship with the One who saved us.
